Stromae’s Journey: From ‘Racine Carrée’ to ‘Multitude’ and Beyond

“Papaoutai” is one of the many hits from “Raciné carrée”, Stromae’s second album, which is already 10 years old. On it we find, among others, “Ta fête”, “Ave Cesaria”, “Tous les mêmes”, “Carmen” and “Formidable”. These songs are also eagerly clicked on YouTube, with e.g. B. 406 million views for “Tous les mêmes” and 330 million for “Formidable”.

After “Racine carrée” it was quiet for years around Stromae, who struggled with health problems and depression during this time. In 2022 he released his long-awaited third album “Multitude”, in which he describes this difficult time without taboos. Successful appearances at home and abroad followed.

In April of this year, Stromae temporarily canceled his performances for health reasons. A month later, he announced on social media that he was canceling his tour completely. “Unfortunately, today I have to accept that the time I need to rest and recover will take longer than I expected,” he said. Stromae didn’t say exactly what was going on, but that meant, among other things, that the concert planned for June 30th at Rock Werchter couldn’t take place.
