In 2023, Stromae worried his fans by abruptly stopping his tour, and at the same time putting his singing career on hold. “A few months ago, I felt a deterioration in my health which led me to give up on a few first dates in France and then in Europe. Surrounded by my doctors, my family, my friends and my team, I hoped to be able to recover quickly to get back on the road and see you again as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, today I must accept that this time of rest and remission will be longer than I imagined; It is therefore with immense regret that I will not be able to honor my promise and that I announce the end of the Multitude tour today. This decision is difficult but necessary to be able to get better“, he told his fans.
Stromae was mentally exhausted, which led him to make this difficult decision. As a reminder, he first threw in the towel at the end of 2015, undermined by depression aggravated by the side effects of an antimalarial. He then arranged for it to not happen again, as he explained at the start of 2023 for RTBF, before finally diving back in a few months later: “I don’t think I’ll let myself be fooled a second time. The tour is much more relaxing. We pay a lot of attention to it with my teams. We are very careful with the planning.”
This day when Stromae recounted his depression on the 8 p.m. set of TF1
We all remember his song Hella hit from his album Multitude, in which he candidly returns to his depression. , “I have sometimes had suicidal thoughts/I am not very proud of them/We sometimes believe that this is the only way to silence them/These thoughts which make my life hell…“, we hear in this song, which he revealed in a sequence staged on the 8:00 p.m. news on TF1, on a Sunday evening in early 2022.
