Stromae disguises fear with music

After a musical break, the Belgian singer Stromae found balance in his personal life by becoming a father; Although he celebrates it with new music, he comments that he still suffers from the ravages that the pandemic left him.

“I feel very scared to go out and I am sure that is the case for many people because we have been locked up at home for a long time, but I force myself to go out sometimes because honestly I would like to stay at home, which is my safe place” , comment.

Those fears, he says, are calmed by his wife, who was by his side at all times and supported him by taking care of their child to give him time to continue composing.

“It was a perfect time because I concentrated on making my album, I was able to go to my office, I worked in my studio, I had a normal life, although it was difficult because I couldn’t see my friends, but I was very lucky, I know that many people suffered. And it wasn’t easy for him.”

Becoming a father has not been an easy task, especially since his three-year-old son wakes him up early every day.

“I hate getting up early, I’m very bad at it, but I have to because my baby wakes me up sometimes at half past six in the morning, it’s hard but I have to do it, sometimes it’s my wife’s turn, who is a beautiful mom,” he deepens.

Now that inspiration has translated into a series of combinations of rhythms from many cultures that he tried to unite to create his Multitude album, which is now available on physical and all digital platforms.

“Combining Afro music, cumbia, music from Bolivia, Bulgaria, China, has many influences around the world. I discovered electronic cumbia a few years ago, I liked it a lot and I also liked the classic reggaeton beats, that’s why I combined it with cumbia and I think something original came out.”

And although he emphasizes that he likes reggaeton and its sounds, he wanted to experiment with it.

“I like reggaeton but it’s hard for me to find a rhythm, I feel like it’s been the same for 20 years, that sometimes it’s repetitive, so I decided to change it and combine sounds.”
