Strolling through the flea market during King’s Day in Utrecht

This King’s Day, the people of Utrecht have again taken all the knick-knacks from the attic and then sold them on the flea market. From old cables to books and from child seats to crockery, virtually all trinkets were passed by and given the crowds, these products are very popular.

The celebrations around King’s Day kicked off in Utrecht on Friday with King’s Night. Despite the sometimes drizzly weather, it was very busy in the city. Around 10:15 p.m., the municipality called on X to stop coming to the center of Utrecht.

King’s Day kicked off on Saturday with the ringing of the bells of the Cathedral by the Utrecht Bellringers Guild. Afterwards there was a ceremony on the steps of the city hall, also called the aubade, where Mayor Sharon Dijksma, among others, gave a short speech. The mayor then visited various places in Utrecht.

In the meantime, the various event squares in the city slowly filled up. Around 2:50 p.m. the municipality announced that the Neude was full, and then the same was said about the Janskerkof and Oudkerkhof.

It is also busy at the flea market, which can be found in the north of the city center. People have until 6 p.m. to sell their old stuff. After that time, King’s Day ends in Utrecht and the big cleaning begins.
