Lance Stroll will race in the opening race of Formula 1 in Bahrain this weekend after surgery on his injured wrist. The Canadian previously missed the test days after a fall from his bike.
Stroll, 24, speaks of an unfortunate incident. “I ended up in a hole in the ground with my wheel and fell. But luckily the damage was not too bad. With a small operation on my wrist, everything was quickly resolved.”
Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich replaced Stroll during the test days in Bahrain last week. The Brazilian would also be the replacement during the race, should Stroll not be fit in time.
“I’ve been working hard after surgery to make sure I’m ready to compete this weekend,” Stroll said. “I’m looking forward to racing.”
Formula 1 starts in Bahrain the longest season in history, which counts 24 races. Stroll is a teammate of 41-year-old Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin this year. The British team impressed during the test days with the new car, which does not seem to be much inferior to those of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.
