Jakarta: In patients after stroke, doing physical exercise is highly recommended. This is because physical exercise can be one way for the decline in body function that occurs after a stroke can be handled properly.
“When we talk about physical exercise, it really cannot be separated from a comprehensive rehabilitation program,” said dr. Vitriana, SpKFR (K) – Specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from PP PERDOSRI, in the Media Briefing of World Stroke Day.
A person who has had a stroke or is being treated for a stroke requires comprehensive medical management and rehabilitation. For that, we must pay attention to all medical aspects, all aspects of its function with a neurorehabilitation approach and of course medical to optimize its function.
“Medical rehabilitation is carried out so that a patient with a stroke or post-stroke can return to their functional activities independently. Because it is possible that stroke patients experience permanent functional impairment. For example, those that cannot be repaired or cannot be returned normally,” explained dr. Vitriana.
According to dr. Vitriana, the essence of stroke rehabilitation or exercise is to restore functional activities independently and achieve a quality life.
“He may have sequelae from a stroke, then his function will be disrupted but his life is still of good quality because it does not mean that having a disability means that his life will be in vain. That is the ultimate goal of stroke rehabilitation,” said dr. Vitriana.
“If you have had a stroke, time is the key word. If it is too long to start undergoing a rehabilitation phase or some form of exercise, it will be difficult to restore function. So there is a golden period for recovery from function, the best is around 2 weeks to 6 months,” concluded dr. Vitriana.
