String quartet ‘Balcea Quartet’ will open the autumn chamber music festival

The Autumn Chamber Music Festival organized by VSIA “Latvijas Koncertu” on October 3 in the Small Hall of Dzintari Concert Hall, pl. At 18.00, the string quartet “Belcea Quartet”, which has been mentioned among the world’s most outstanding chamber music ensembles for more than 20 years, will open with a multi-colored program.

In the concert program Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 23rd Quartet, Franz Schubert’s “Death and the Girl” and Polish Karol Shimanovsky’s First String Quartet.

From 2017 to 2020, the Belcea Quartet was the resident string quartet at the new Pierre Boulez Concert Hall in Berlin, where it continues to perform. Vienna’s “Konzerthaus” “Belcea Quartet” performs in concert cycles. This season, the ensemble performs at the Perelman Theater in Philadelphia, the Rudolfinum Temple in Prague, the Konzerthaus in Dortmund, the Elysée Country Theater in Paris, and the Tonhalle Maag in Zurich. In September this year, the Belcea Quartet gave concerts in Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The Belcea Quartet attracts symphony music lovers around the world. At the heart of the quartet is the temperamental Romanian Korina Belča, complemented by Polish violaist Krzysztof Hoželski and French violinist Axel Schacher, as well as French cellist Antoine Lederlen.

Conductor Normunds Šnē describes the sound of the quartet as follows: “The key to the magical appeal of the Belcea Quartet is an unlimited field of imagination and the sound color palette available to musicians. The ability of incredibly different personalities to merge into music is amazing. ”

The musicians have recorded string quartets by Bartok, Beethoven, Brahms and Britten. The quartet regularly commissions and performs new works by contemporary composers. The musicians also support the new string quartets by organizing seminars to pass on their experience.

Autumn chamber music festival will take place from 3 to 9 October. The festival will feature music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Joseph Haydn, John Ivanov, Imants Zemzars. Listeners will be met by violin virtuosos – Vineta Sareika and Florian Donderer, brilliant pianist Rein Zariņš, Latvian Radio Choir, chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” and other artists. Concert attendees will be required to present an interoperable vaccination or Covid-19 disease certificate as well as an identity document.
