A man died in a shooting at a trailer park on Heezerweg in Eindhoven on Monday afternoon. It is a fatal low point after a series of previous incidents at the camp. The municipality wants to close it, because the camp would not be safe and accessible. Below you can read how things have gone wrong more often in recent years.
2011: Bags full of weed
The fact that the caravan camp has been under a magnifying glass for some time is evident from the fact that major police checks were already carried out in 2011. Dozens of agents combed the trailers, with a loot that seems relatively innocent with today’s knowledge. Three bags full of hemp plants were seized and a weed dryer and a hemp farm were discovered in a shed. The police also took seven air guns.
2015: Drug substances and silencers
However, it really only starts there. In 2015, the police decided to raid the camp again after local residents complained about a striking stench. The smell turned out to come from a collection of items that are used to make ecstasy. Think of gas bottles, but also barrels and jerry cans full of chemicals. In addition, the police found two silencers for firearms.
2019: Cars and motorcycles seized
It was also hit in 2019. During a new check in November, the police found firearms, drugs and illegal fireworks, among other things. Several cars, motorcycles and electric scooters were also seized.
2020: Man stabbed
Despite the large proceeds from previous searches, arrests in most cases failed to materialize. That was different when a man was stabbed at the camp in February 2020. He fled to the gas station 500 meters away and called 112 there. Later that day, the police arrested a 38-year-old suspect.
July 2022: Municipality is fed up
In retrospect, it may have been the last straw for the municipality. In July of last year, the residents of the caravan camp received a letter stating that the camp must disappear. According to the municipality, it is not a ‘safe and liveable’ environment. much to the outrage of the residents. “What is not safe?” Ad Schalks wondered at the time. “We’re not harming anyone.”
The departure is not final, however. The Eindhoven city council still has to pronounce on it.
October 2022: 8 homes searched
What will not help is that the caravan camp on the Heezerweg was again in the news last autumn. Rural, this time. It was one of the targets of a huge action by the police and the FIOD. At least a thousand agents, investigative officers and specialists from Defense were deployed that day in various places. Eight homes on Heezerweg were searched.
In total, the action on October 17 resulted in nine arrests. The police also found large amounts of drugs, weapons, cash and fireworks. How much of this came from the camp on the Heezerweg is unknown.
July 2023: Man shot dead
On Monday, a man was shot dead outside the camp. A perpetrator has not yet been found, according to the police. It is not clear whether the shooting is related to the aforementioned incidents.
