Striking: Own TV channel for Netflix

In recent years, linear television has been severely affected by the arrival of many streaming services. Netflix, Disney + and Amazon Prime Video, meanwhile, have taken a big chunk of the market share. Now streaming giant Netflix is going the opposite way.

Netflix looks at whether it makes sense to start a TV channel with a linear broadcasting strategy. Last Thursday, Netflix launched the “channel” Netflix Direct. This is a preset channel on which certain content is broadcast. So if you start Netflix Direct, you will see what is currently being shown.

Test in France
Netflix is currently only testing Netflix Direct in France and therefore with selected subscribers. Next month, the test will be rolled out across France. The reason Netflix Direct is being tested in France is because French people are said to be rather attached to the old-fashioned linear television.

“Many viewers like the idea of programming where they don’t have to choose what to watch,” said a spokesperson for Netflix. “Whether you’re lacking inspiration or discovering Netflix for the first time, you could let yourself be guided for the first time without having to choose a particular title and let the diversity of the Netflix library surprise you.”
