If the NS does not agree to the collective labor agreement requirements of the unions before 4 p.m. on Friday, actions will inevitably follow, according to the unions. FNV director Henri Janssen says that this can range from relay strikes in certain regions to the national shutdown of the track.
According to the unions, there are many employees who want to go on strike or take action. This not only concerns conductors and drivers, but also employees in the office and the workshops where the maintenance of trains is carried out.
The unions demand, among other things, a higher salary and more efficient rosters for the employees. “The employment conditions at the NS have been under pressure for years. People have to be able to reach the finish line in a healthy way. But we see that the work pressure is extremely high, and the same applies to the outflow of employees,” says Janssen.
The NS is currently not filling many vacancies, resulting in, for example, train cancellations. “That is why a better collective labor agreement is needed to turn the tide. Only then can NS hire more people and stop the exodus.”
The NS says in a response that it cannot say anything about the current situation.
