Strikes in regional transport again, start of new series

NOS News

Those who travel by regional transport today must again take strikes into account. Some of the bus drivers and train employees are giving up work for a better collective labor agreement.

It is still unknown which lines will fall out. The transport companies call on travelers to check just before departure whether a trip is possible or not.

NS trains do run according to the timetable. Most buses, metros and trams in Rotterdam (RET), The Hague (HTM) and Amsterdam (GVB) will also run as normal. Employees of these companies are covered by a different collective labor agreement.

New series

The strike is the first in a new series, which was announced before the weekend. The unions CNV and FNV plan to strike for a total of fifteen days over the next six weeks.

Some of the staff in regional transport have been fighting for a better collective labor agreement since December. FNV demands a wage increase of 16.9 percent for a collective labor agreement for one year, the CNV demands 14 percent spread over eighteen months. In addition to higher wages, the unions also want measures to reduce the high workload among bus drivers.

Employers think that wage demand is too high. The wage offer of the Public Transport Employers Association (VWOV) is 8 percent for a year. Together with the improved terms of employment, staff would benefit by 11 percent.
