Since flights within Germany in particular are canceled, Eurowings says it is possible to convert the flight tickets into tickets for Deutsche Bahn. Affected passengers can do this via the Eurowings app or the service center.
Passengers whose flights are canceled due to the strike are asked not to travel to the airport, but to contact the service center. Canceled flights can be changed or canceled free of charge in the “My flight” area.
Why was the strike at Lufthansa subsidiaries extended at short notice?
Initially, the UFO union had asked flight attendants to stop working between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday morning. In the short term, however, the union announced that the work break would be extended until midnight. As a result, the cabin staff of the Lufthansa subsidiaries is now on strike on Sunday, October 20, 2019.
“The group has further tightened its pace and not only threatened with labor law consequences, but also on top of that with job loss”, the deputy UFO chairman Daniel Flohr explains the step. The employers had given the cabin employees in a message that the strike endangered their jobs.
Ufo threatens further strikes at Lufthansa airlines
The UFO is also threatening further strikes at the Lufthansa Group: “Unfortunately, such an approach does not suggest that an agreement can be reached regarding our demands, so that we consider this step to be necessary and, on the whole, we have to assume a long discussion of massive strikes . ”The UFO is about salary increases, company pensions and part-time arrangements.
In a statement, Eurowings continues to describe the strike as “illegal”: “The massive strike expansion until midnight, which took place at short notice this morning, shows once again how ruthlessly the union carries out its power policy on the backs of customers and employees.”
