Striker Vietnam Nguyen Van Truong quipped the players Indonesian National team ahead of the clash between the two ASEAN teams in 2023 Asian CupFriday (19/1).
Van Truong is in high confidence after facing the Japanese team in the opening match of Group D in Doha, Sunday (14/1). Even though they lost 2-4, he considered Vietnam to be quite impressive against a team regular in the World Cup.
Van Truong and his friends were flooded with praise even though they lost to Japan. The reason is, The Golden Star was able to provide fierce resistance, even winning 2-1 before finally losing 2-4 at the end of the match.
“After the match against Japan, coach [Philippe Troussier] quite proud when we performed well against Japan. “The biggest lesson I learned in the match against Japan was the courage to appear in a big match,” Van Truong was quoted as saying Soha.
“In the next match against Indonesia, I think in this year’s Asian Cup there will be VAR so the opponent can’t mess around,” added Van Truong.
The Vietnamese team’s performance in the opening match against Japan brought many positive signs. Even though they lost, coach Troussier’s team showed a confident, disciplined game and knew how to launch attacks that surprised their opponents.
Meanwhile, Indonesia still appeared nervous against Iraq. Even though they were able to provide resistance, Garuda failed to take advantage of a series of good opportunities and still often made mistakes in defense.
Next, Vietnam will meet Indonesia at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, on Friday (19/1). The duel between the two teams can determine who will be eliminated faster.
Currently Vietnam is in third place because of the superior number of goals scored against opponents from Indonesia. One of the losing teams has a big chance of being eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup.
Meanwhile, the top of the standings is controlled by Japan and second place is occupied by Iraq. Both teams both scored three points but Japan was ahead by the number of goals.
