You shouldn’t bet on buses and trams today!
Verdi started a nationwide warning strike in local public transport on Tuesday night. The union warned that massive disruptions could be expected across Germany.
With the strike, a nationwide collective agreement is to be enforced for around 87,000 employees.
The extensive work stoppages are causing harsh criticism in view of the corona pandemic with increasing numbers of infections.

The BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) declared that the strike announcement was too short-term and that adequate preparation was no longer possible.
The fact that Berlin passengers can only use the S-Bahn is annoying and dangerous because of the possibility of corona infection. The S-Bahn wants to at least provide some relief and has announced that it will use more trains.
There was also headwind for Verdi from the Municipal Employers’ Association (KAV). Managing director Anke Stier complained: “We have no understanding for this warning strike. It was only last year that all BVG employees saw income improvements amounting to 102 million euros annually. ”Such an extensive strike also represents an unnecessary health risk for local transport passengers.
Baden-Württemberg
At all eight transport companies, the drivers want to stop working. Typically, the establishments transport more than a million people a day. In Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden Bus and tram drivers went on strike on Friday, now they want to go back to work.

As a result, at least every second bus should run.
Berlin
After 3 a.m., no buses, subways or trams will run. The BVG is serious: chaos and delays in morning rush hour traffic with announcement. At least the S-Bahn wants to send 40 more trains onto the tracks.
The vehicle fleet is to stand still for a total of nine hours – until at least 12 noon. It may take some more time until everything runs smoothly again.
