Strike: “We demand what you have taken from us” – Crowds of people in the center of Athens demand a life with dignity (Photos – Videos) – 2024-04-18 13:58:58

The center of Athens is inaccessible to protesters. Crowds of people have responded to the call of unions and unions to participate in the 24-hour strike of the GSEE, with the main demands ensuring a life with dignity, real wage increases and the reinstatement of Collective Labor Agreements, while the Mitsotakis precision sweeps purchasing power the citizens.

How will the mass media move?

Without Metro and Electric

On Wednesday, April 17, they will not move Subway and Electric, with the workers participating in the 24-hour strike. The Athens Metro Operation Workers Union invites its members to the gathering in Klathmonos Square.

Work stations on buses and trolleybuses

The OASA Union and the ILPAP Union have decided to join with work stoppages. Specifically, city buses and trolleys will run from 09:00 until 21:00.

It is worth noting that the buses that run on the lines that have taken over the KTEL they will move normally.

No taxi until 15:00

Attica without taxis from 05:00 in the morning until 15:00 in the afternoon, with the owners having planned a gathering at the SATA offices at 10:00, with the slogan “no taxis on the streets”.

What applies to trains and Prostiakov

The Panhellenic Federation of Railways also participates in a 24-hour strike. However, according to an announcement by Hellenic Train, a number of routes will operate with security personnel.

Hellenic Train will run the following routes with security personnel:

  • In the section Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens: 52, 53, 56 and 57
  • In the section Larissa – Thessaloniki – Larissa: 1591, 1592, 2593, 2594, 1597 and 1598
  • On the Piraeus – Kiato – Piraeus section: 1300, 1305, 1318, 1323, 1326 and 2301
  • On the Piraeus – Airport – Piraeus section: 1206, 1207, 1222, 1223, 1230 and 1231
  • On the section Athens – Chalkida – Athens: 1532, 1535, 1550, 1553, 2530 and 2533

Also, due to the strike, the following itineraries are modified:

  • In the Piraeus – Kiato – Piraeus section: On Tuesday 16.04.2024, trains 2302 and 2304 will make their route from Piraeus to Ano Liosia by train, and in the Ano Liosia – Kiato section they will be replaced by buses.
  • In the Athens-Chalkida-Athens section: On Tuesday 16.04.2024, train 2534 will run from Athens to Afidnes by train, and in the Afidnes – Chalkida section it will be replaced by a bus.
  • Also, train 2539 in the Chalkida – Oinoi section will be replaced by a bus.

Ships tied up

PNO participates in the 24-hour strike, resulting in the non-operation of ferry routes. “The PNO strike will begin at 00.01 on Wednesday, April 17 and will end at midnight of the same day, with a request to deal with punctuality and to ensure the appropriate conditions for a decent level”, the relevant announcement points out.

Traffic regulations in Athens

From 09:30, traffic regulations will be in force in the center of Athens due to the gatherings for the GSEE strike.

The traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and on a case-by-case basis – where necessary and depending on the movement of the demonstrators – in the streets surrounding the Propylaia, Omonoia Square (Patision, Aiolou, etc.), Syntagma Square (Othonos, Amalias and Vasilissis Avenues Sofia) as well as on the University and Stadium roads.
