Workers in various sectors are going on strike this week. In particular, the mobilizations will take place from Tuesday, October 22 to Friday, October 25.
Ship strike October 22 and 23
The Panhellenic Maritime Federation announced a 48-hour strike on October 22 and 23, demanding the signing of a Collective Labor Agreement with a 12% increase.
Workers demand:
- Repeal of Law 41/50,
- Immediate amendment of the article on the four-month routing of E.G/O.G, High Speed Ships and
- Imposition of seven-month mandatory routing,
- In practice and not on paper without any objection, the non-approval of itineraries by the S.A.S. and Ministers, in view of the new sailing period, without the strict observance of the Maritime Legislation
«We cannot ignore the high profitability of the companies, the 150,000,000 euros they collect annually from the State fund for subsidizing the barren lines, the bonus that the Government is preparing for them for the renewal and modernization of their fleet due to the famous transition to green shipping. We still cannot ignore that on all ships even these minimums included in the Maritime Law are being violated at the expense of Seamen» states the PNO announcement.
Schools closed on Wednesday, October 23
Primary schools and kindergartens will remain closed, as the Greek Teachers’ Federation has declared a 24-hour strike throughout Greece.
The teachers will hold a rally at 12:00 in Propylaia, while similar demonstrations will take place throughout the country.
Their requests
«We strengthen the continuous struggle for substantial increases in our salaries, to meet the educational needs of our children for public and free education in the face of the commercialization, categorization and differentiation of schools – students – teachers attempted by the government of ND» says the announcement of the IOC.
The teachers are talking about a pay cut, pointing out that the government has “made education a pariah”.
«From the years of the memorandums until today our salaries have suffered a reduction of almost 60% in their purchasing power, while the accuracy is constantly galloping and at the same time the entry salary is €776» is highlighted.
Among other things, the teachers state: “We are fighting for substantial increases in our salaries so that we can live with dignity. The 13th -14th salary and the pay scale of 2016-17 should be returned immediately. To sign a Collective Labor Agreement for the entire industry, which will secure critical labor rights”.
«Equalize the rights of permanent and substitute teachers. A 9-month parenting leave should be granted immediately for the deputies […]. It is unacceptable for the remainder of the school year to proceed with hundreds of departmental collapses and thousands of teacher vacancies remaining unfilled.» they add.
On October 24 and 25, the cleaning workers’ strike
The 48th strike has been announced for October 24 and 25 by school cleaning workers.
The Federation of Associations of Employees in the Services (O.S.E.Y.P.E.) claims recognition of the permanent and permanent nature of the cleaning needs of schools and conversion of I.D.O.X. signing a collective labor agreement, Certification of Professional Skills and Certification of Cleaning and Disinfection Products as well as timely Payroll payments.
