The day after the end of her career, Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty announced that she would be removed from the first place in the world rankings. Iga Šwiateková from Poland will be the new WTA number one for the first time in her career.
Twenty-five-year-old Barty was in the lead for over two years and in the first place had a significant lead of 2204 points over Šwiateková (5776 points). Maria Sakkari from Greece (5085) is in third place, and Czech tennis player Barbora Krejčíková (5033) is fourth.
“My name will not be in the latest order,” Barty told a news conference in Brisbane. “It will be great for the WTA to have a new world number one,” added the three-time grand slam winner.
