The latest strike by the train drivers union GDL at Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs GmbH (SWEG) has ended, but more are likely to follow. A spokesman for the GDL said on Friday the strike was suspended. Employees were asked to return to work on Thursday evening. The GDL spokesman clarified that more work stoppages could follow. It wasn’t more specific.
The Stuttgart network of the subsidiary SWEG Bahn Stuttgart GmbH (SBS) has been particularly affected by the strike measures since Wednesday. The background is a collective bargaining conflict in which the GDL, according to its own statements, would like to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement for the more than 500 railway workers not only for SBS, but for the entire SWEG group. The group has a total of 1800 employees.
SWEG refuses and does not want to permanently take over the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg – today SBS. Daughter Abellio got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.
