Strike at SMTVD: staff remain mobilized and Martinique recycling centers inaccessible

New day of mobilization for the staff of the Martinique Waste Treatment and Recovery Union (SMTVD) this Saturday, August 24, 2024. A strike that is seriously disrupting waste collection. A new meeting with management is scheduled for Monday, August 26.

Arriving at the gate, users quickly turn around and go back. Padlocks and signs saying “on strike” imply that they will not be able to access the site to deposit their waste.

Saint-Joseph, Chateauboeuf, Case-Navire, Robert, Céron, Fond Canonville, Saint-Esprit, seven waste disposal sites are managed by the Martinique Waste Treatment and Recovery Union (SMTVD). All sites are inaccessible until further notice. Staff have been mobilized since Friday, August 23, 2024. They denounce the non-compliance with a memorandum of understanding signed during the last mobilization, cases of psychological violence as well as poor working conditions.

According to the union, the meeting between employees and management held on Friday, August 23, 2024 appears to have been fruitful. The two parties reached an agreement on certain points. A protocol to end the conflict should be signed at the next meeting scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2024.

Pending this signature, the staff remains mobilized. Waste collection is seriously disrupted and the sites are inaccessible.
