The unions are specifically asking for the purchasing power premium (which amounts to a maximum of 750 euros, ed.), which the government has made possible, is awarded. “They have already agreed to 500 euros, but given the profits and the planned bonuses for the management, we want the full pot of 750 euros,” emphasizes Tom Crabbé of the ABVV.
In addition, the high workload is also a thorn in the side of the unions. “There have been major savings on personnel for years. People retire, but are not replaced. We have to work more and more with fewer people,” says Mouton.
It is still unclear how long the strike will last. “If they come up with the 750 euros, we will clean up the place,” he said. If that is not the case, the unions want to stop work for 24 hours, but possibly longer.
In a response, the management of AB InBev said that they regret the strike. “A follow-up meeting was already planned for next week with the employees involved. We hope to resolve this situation quickly through constructive consultation,” said spokesperson Justien Dewil.
