The first strike in the history of the Arcobaleno cooperative was successful, which for 30 years has managed, on behalf of the Municipality of Turin and its subsidiary AMIAT, the collection of paper throughout the territory of Turin and some neighboring municipalities.
The workers, supported in their struggle by USB, after decades of total absence of any union initiative and protection, have decided to raise their heads and begin a determined path to obtain dignified economic and working conditions corresponding to the quality of the work they carry out.
USB had already requested, in a meeting, the cooperative to apply economic conditions in line with the environmental hygiene contract, instead of the social cooperative contract.
The negative outcome of this roundtable, together with the lack of consideration of issues related to safety at work, aggravated by the cooperative’s decision not to appoint RLS as our delegate elected by the workers with the highest number of votes, made the strike necessary.
The protest, which was held under the Town Hall of Turin with the participation of several workers and supporters, obtained that the municipal councilor for the ecological transition Chiara Foglietta came among the demonstrators to respond to the union requests.
We ask the Municipality for precise information on the current management entrusted to Arcobaleno and guarantees on the future of the workers in the event of a change of contract, providing not only the social clause but also the application of the environmental hygiene sector contract.
However, in the absence of any reassuring element to date, the workers of the Arcobaleno contract will continue the fight, relaunching further strike action in the next few days, with a demonstration which this time will be held under the subsidiary AMIAT and also preparing the general strike announced by USB for next December 13th.
WE WANT WAGES, RIGHTS, DIGNITY!
