Below is a brief overview of the new measures:
- Catering establishments must close at 1 a.m. and are not allowed to let new customers in from midnight,
- Meetings of more than 50 people are no longer allowed, except for demonstrations, religious gatherings, funeral ceremonies and dance and theater performances,
- For meetings of more than 50 people there will be a duty to report,
- The measures will take effect on Sunday at 6 pm.
In Amsterdam, the parks will now be closed at night. In Amsterdam and Rottedam, public buildings – libraries or swimming pools, for example – will at certain times only be open to the elderly and people with health problems. In Rotterdam take-aways have to close at 2 a.m.
According to Rutte, the extra measures are necessary because the Dutch are less strict with the corona measures, such as keeping a distance of a meter and a half and washing your hands. He makes an appeal to tighten the reins again.
Minister of Health De Jonge emphasizes that the number of infections is really too high. Is there a second wave? “Yes, if we look at the number of infections,” said De Jonge. “But no, if you look at the number of hospital admissions.”
In the past 24 hours, 1,972 new infections have been registered in the Netherlands, a new record for the fourth day in a row.
