On the first day of the latest edition of the fair in Stadspark Osdorp, vans from the Mobile Unit will be in the area. The park is being closely monitored this year because rioting youths were active around the fair last year.
According to a bystander, it concerns about six riot vans and eight normal police cars. There are also municipal enforcers present. In principle, the riot vans are somewhat scattered in the neighborhood and come close if problems (threaten to) arise.
A police spokesman says that there has been consultation with fairground boss Frans Stuy in advance. Stuy himself has also taken all kinds of precautions. Visitors have to go through a detection gate, there is camera surveillance and no one is allowed to wear a cap or hood.
Last year, young people threw fireworks several evenings. It was then questionable whether the district fair could return, but according to Stuy, the district administrator ‘showed balls’. The fair will run through Sunday, June 11.
