Strengthening Health Services: Tackling Dengue Cases in Indonesia through Jumantik and TPK

jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The increasing number of cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Indonesia is an issue that must be tackled together.

In the last three years there has been an increase dengue cases which is significant, from 95,893 cases in 2020 to 131,265 cases in 2022.

The death rate from DHF is also quite worrying, recorded from 2020 to 2022 an increase from 661 people to 1,183 people (Ministry of Health’s P2PM data).

Various factors, such as climate change, urbanization, and global movements have led to an increase in mosquitoes Temples of the Egyptians, the main spreader of the virus that causes dengue fever.

“Of course this is our shared responsibility, because protecting ourselves from dengue begins with educating ourselves and family members to be the right step,” said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy in seminars, e-Book launches, and press conference ‘Strengthening Health Services through Increasing the Role of Jumantik and TPK to Overcome Dengue Cases in Indonesia’, Tuesday (29/8).

In this activity, HIT producers, namely PT Godrej Consumer Products Indonesia, KlikDokter, and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) initiated the Health Service Strengthening Program by increasing the role of larva monitors (Jumantik) and the Family Assistance Team (TPK) to tackle dengue cases in Indonesia.

“Increasing the role of Jumantik and TPK is very important to provide education about eradicating mosquito nests (PSN),” added Coordinating Minister Muhadjir.

Dengue cases can be avoided through proper preventive measures. The 3M Plus program launched by the government is one of the main initiatives in this regard.

Through this program, people are reminded to drain places that could become mosquito breeding grounds, tightly seal water storage areas, recycle, and use mosquito repellents as an extra form of protection.

In addition, Jumantik is also expected to be able to educate the public to live a clean and healthy life and remind efforts to prevent and break the life chain of DHF mosquito larvae, especially since Indonesia is a DHF endemic country that knows no seasons.

This activity is a clear example of strong and proactive multi-sector cooperation in addressing public health issues.

This e-book combines the latest knowledge from health experts and practitioners in an effort to provide comprehensive guidance for Jumantik, TPK, and the wider community on how to overcome and prevent dengue in the home and office environment.
