The Brazilian Ambassador to Haiti, Luís Fernando De CARVALHO, met last Wednesday with Karl-Henry Périclès, coordinator of the National Commission for the Fight against Drugs (CONALD), to discuss the priorities of the Haitian government and international cooperation efforts. in the fight against drugs.
Port-au-Prince, October 19, 2024 – This meeting, held at the Brazilian embassy, is part of the actions of the Haitian government, led by Prime Minister Garry CONILLE, around five priorities: security, justice, management of the humanitarian crisis, the fight against corruption and the organization of elections, according to CONALD.
Karl-Henry PERICLES emphasized the need to rehabilitate and strengthen technical partnerships with international players. He called for increased cooperation, particularly in the field of intelligence and the training of new units specialized in the fight against drugs. Preventive communication strategies aimed at raising public awareness of the dangers of narcotics were also discussed.
This meeting reinforces efforts to structure more effective cooperation, in a context where Haiti, faced with growing insecurity, remains a key transit point for international drug trafficking. Improving local capacities and strengthening international partnerships are considered essential to mitigate the effects of this scourge on Haitian society.
