Something also went wrong with a viaduct in Groningen. The road under the viaduct was flooded. Officers tried to drive through anyway, but their police car broke down after the tunnel.
A car ended up in a ditch on the N46 near the village of Sint Annen. Emergency services arrived at the scene. It is not known if there were any injuries.
Welcome and peace of the wind
The KNMI had announced a code in the central and eastern part of the country during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday due to showers with thunder. A lot of rain would fall in a short period of time in some places. There was also a chance of hail and wind storms.
A code yellow was issued again at around 00:30.
Yesterday, a few heavy storms fell earlier in the evening, especially in South Limburg. Code orange was applied there first.
A blessing fell in Landgraaf and Kerkrade. according to News L1 great hailstones fell from the sky. Hailstones with a diameter of 2 centimeters were reported in Heerlen and the surrounding area.
heavy rain showers in Kerkrade
The storms also reached the north and central Limburg around 7pm. The water level was still limited in Roermond and Venlo. In Blitterswijck, 30 millimeters of rain fell in half an hour. A new (separate) sewer specifically for rainwater in the city could not handle that large load of water, causing flooding on a street.
Today there will be showers across the country during the day, possibly with thunder, but there are no more warnings anywhere.
