Joseph Beuys on Johann-Peter-Boelling-Platz, Günter Netzer in the old town or the sleeping schoolboy on the Geroweiher pond: graffiti is an integral part of the Mönchengladbach cityscape. Graffiti has long since shed its sleazy image and is now viewed as an art form. In the city you can take a walk to admire all the large murals, i.e. graffiti paintings on windowless facades. The urban art festival “Home Street Home” created many works of art on Waldhausener Straße by the artist duo Tubuku from Krefeld, the Duisburg collective emphasized.es and the artists Johanna Olga and M05k. At Aachener Straße 60 you can see Johannes Veit’s great manifesto and on the back wall of Aachener Straße 33a the artists Steffen Mumm aka HokerOne, Oldhaus and Tubuku have immortalized themselves as cans. Steffen Mumm and Philipp Kömen created a school-themed graffiti at the Geroweiher high school, after which the former teacher Bärbel Schilling received the subsidy for the beautification of the new building facade. All these works and many more can be discovered on a walk through Mönchengladbach.
