There is a dispute between DAZN and the DFL over TV rights. The verdict is expected soon.

Munich – The dispute over TV rights between DAZN and the German Football League (DFL) could have massive consequences. A “total withdrawal” from the Bundesliga is an option for the streaming provider, as Alice Mascia, Germany boss of DAZN, told the business magazine Capital said.

DAZN considers withdrawal from the Bundesliga

“We are not ruling anything out,” said Mascia. “We are a global company, and for us there is more than just the Bundesliga.”

At the same time, the DAZN boss stressed that withdrawing from the Bundesliga was not the desired option. The streaming provider would much rather expand its involvement in Germany, which is an important market.

DAZN and DFL in dispute over TV rights: verdict expected soon

The arbitration tribunal is to clarify whether the DFL was right to deny the streaming provider the contract for a TV package with 196 Bundesliga matches for the seasons from 2025/26 to 2028/29. DAZN had offered the highest price for the rights (1.6 billion euros), but the DFL demanded a bank guarantee, which DAZN apparently did not comply with. Pay-TV broadcaster Sky was then awarded the rights package.

Mutual accusations followed. The DFL even suspended the tender for the rights. A verdict could be announced on Tuesday (September 24).
