Stream the Heartwarming Sci-Fi Classic “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” on Amazon Prime Video

There are only a few films that (almost) everyone can agree on, but Steven Spielberg’s super-classic “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” is definitely one of them. Now you can stream the heartwarming sci-fi adventure with a Prime Video subscription.

They are rare, but they do exist: these films that continue to inspire across generations and whose legacy is carried forward because they have lost none of their power and magic even years, even decades after their release. “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” is one such film. A film that invites you to watch it again and again for exactly the reasons mentioned…

… and that’s exactly what is now particularly easy to do. While “ET” has been conspicuous by its absence from the major providers for a long time, it is now finally finding its way back into the subscription of one of the streaming giants: “ET – The Extraterrestrial” is now available on Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost for Prime customers* inside (and yes, fortunately in the original film version, in which the police officers were allowed to be armed with rifles instead of walkie talkies).

“ET”: One of the best sci-fi films of all time

Even more than 40 (!) years after its release, “ET,” which broke box office records at the time, is still one of the best sci-fi films of all time. He occupies a special position in the genre simply because he presents the titular alien visitor not as a monstrous threat from space, but as a cuddly humanitarian, a similarly positive drawing to that of director Steven Spielberg’s a few years earlier cult classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”.

On this foundation, Spielberg sensitively unfolds a child-friendly, but never childish, story about the unusual friendship between a lonely boy (played by future Mike Flanagan regular Henry Thomas) and a stranded man from another galaxy. He relies on a perfect mix of atmospheric 80s adventure, charming fish-out-of-water humor and great, sincere feelings – from the cautious approach of the two main characters to the heartbreaking finale, where no eye in the eye will remain dry should.

Allen Daviau’s magical cinematography, John Williams’ stirring music and the unforgettable supporting actors Drew Barrymore and Peter Coyote are the icing on the cake on this touching masterpiece, which is not without reason why numerous iconic images and quotes have gone down in film history and pop culture. “ET” is and remains an absolutely exceptional work by an absolutely exceptional director.
