Jude Bellingham is perhaps the best player in the world right now. The Real Madrid star was signed for a billion this summer and has been injecting goals for the “meringues” of the Spanish capital club during the opening of the season.
In an interview with L’Equipe, the 20-year-old says that as a youngster he did not have obvious childhood idols such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Instead, Bellingham looked up to a trio from his own local club Birmingham City.
Namely Craig Gardner, Lee Bowyer – and former AIK midfielder Sebastian Larsson.
– I admired the players from Birmingham, especially the team that won the League Cup at Wembley (2011), Bellingham told the French newspaper, according to the Daily Mail.
– My heroes were “Seb” Larsson, Craig Gardner and Lee Bowyer. But while I got closer to the A team myself, my father was the most important person in my life.
Bellingham played in Birmingham between 2010-2020 before being sold to Borussia Dortmund.
And as for his idol Sebastian Larsson, the long-serving Swedish international represented Birmingham from 2006 to 2011.
