Andris Nelsons realized a major project with orchestras from Boston and Leipzig: the recording of all the tone poems by Richard Strauss.
One name is missing from the program of the upcoming Salzburg Easter Festival, for which Andris Nelsons will conduct the music alone: Richard Strauss. Possibly Nelsons deliberately left out the Bavarian composer, whose opulently scored works are known to be ideal for the Great Festival Hall. Finally, Strauss sets Nelsons’ current agenda. The chief conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra has planned a parallel tour of both orchestras through Europe for the spring, which will include all the tone poems.
