Stratfor: Russia exports not only energy, but also influence – 2024-08-20 15:34:54

/ world today news/ Russia guarantees its presence in the geopolitically important countries of the world, increasing contracts for nuclear energy. This will allow Russia to be an influential country in the future as the growth in demand for alternative energy sources will continue to increase, analysts believe.

In the future, Russian energy exports will not be limited to hydrocarbons. Given the growing demand for alternative sources of energy, including nuclear energy, Moscow will be able to ensure the growth of nuclear energy exports, increasing its geopolitical importance, analysts from the Stratfor research center believe.

Rosatom’s foreign orders have been growing over the past few years, despite the fact that the world has become more cautious about nuclear power after the accident in Japan’s Fukushima, experts write.

“Rosatom’s foreign orders in 2013 reached 74 billion dollars. As of September 2015, the value of Rosatom’s export orders reached 300 billion in 12 countries of the world. In addition, Russia has memorandums of cooperation and is conducting deals at various stages in the negotiation process around the world. From South Africa to Argentina and from Vietnam to Hungary and Saudi Arabia, there seems to be no region where Russia has not tried to target its nuclear exports,” Stratfor wrote.

Analysts point out that in March 2015, Jordan signed agreements with Russia for $10 billion, which will allow Moscow to build two nuclear reactors in that country by 2022.

“This will allow Russia to set foot on the territory of the Levant, regardless of the outcome of the Syrian civil war,” the experts note.

In this way, Stratfor believes, Russia will be able to expand its presence in geopolitically important countries, especially in the construction, ownership and operation of nuclear facilities.

Russia is at various stages of negotiations with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Finland, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, China and others, analysts say.

Stratfor writes that Russia will face competition in the growing nuclear energy market, but in any case, from the analysts’ point of view, Russia will increase its global influence by increasing the volume of nuclear energy exports.
