(CNN) — The Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, met Thursday with the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, in Jeddah, where they “discussed strategic relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields, and they also reviewed developments in the regional and international situations of common concern.” According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

For its part, the White House confirmed, in a statement, that Sullivan traveled, Thursday, to Jeddah, to meet with Prince Muhammad bin Salman and senior Saudi officials in order to “discuss bilateral and regional issues, including initiatives to promote a common vision for more peace, and a safe Middle East region.” prosperous, stable and interconnected with the world.

The statement added: “Sullivan also reviewed the significant progress to build on the benefits of the truce in Yemen that has continued over the past 16 months and welcomed the ongoing efforts led by the United Nations to end the war.”

“The two delegations agreed to maintain regular consultations and follow up on matters discussed throughout the day,” he continued.

Sullivan’s trip comes at a time when the US administration is exploring the possibility of reaching an agreement to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

And New York Times writer Thomas Friedman stated, after a meeting with US President Joe Biden, that Biden sent Sullivan to the Kingdom to continue exploring the possibility of reaching an agreement, and to determine what it takes to reach such an agreement.
