Strasbourg Supporters Express Concerns Over Recruitment Policy Under New Ownership

Seven supporters’ associations of the Strasbourg club wrote an open letter to President Marc Keller this Tuesday. Fans are worried about the recruitment policy put in place since the takeover by Todd Boehly and which is struggling to bear fruit on the field in Ligue 1.

Strasbourg’s start to the season has not lived up to its promises. Last June, the Alsatian club was bought by BlueCo, the consortium of American investors led by Todd Boehly, who has already taken over Chelsea in May 2022. Remaining president, Marc Keller received a letter this Tuesday from seven associations of supporters, unhappy with the situation.

If these associations “have never been opposed to the arrival of new shareholders”, they have difficulty recognizing themselves in the current team. “The exclusive recruitment of very young players – not yet operational and potentially weakened by their overexposure – combined with the absence of the arrival of more mature players, exposes the club to a sporting risk against which the new shareholder should nevertheless better protect us “, we can read in particular in this open letter addressed to Marc Keller.

“Money without skills leads to nothing good”

Supporters fear that the squad is not destined to progress together in the long term. “The supporters who have affirmed since the takeover that Racing is now no more than a post-training center and a secondary part of a global business have gained a lot of credit following this summer sequence which appears far from the announced ambition”, the seven associations still regret.

After eight days, the RCSA is in 11th place in the ranking, with ten points taken since the arrival of Patrick Vieira on the bench. “Money without skills leads to nothing good and the example of Chelsea, this so-called ‘big brother’ who spends a lot of money for a dizzying fall in the English hierarchy is a worrying benchmark,” the letter continues. “We don’t blame Strasbourg for the incompetence that reigns at Chelsea. Neither directly nor indirectly.”

The associations ask that the values of Racing “be respected” namely “financial and structural stability; a strong, independent identity anchored in the territory; a popular, festive, friendly atmosphere, supported by patient and loyal supporters. ” Fans also warn about multi-ownership, which “is a danger for football”. However, they once again invite a meeting with the new shareholders, announced since the takeover but which has not yet been held.
