It will not take place either in Wacken as in recent years, nor in Hautepierre as BFM Alsace revealed this Wednesday February 21. The Saint Jean Fair will no longer be able to be hosted “in its usual format from this year 2024”, announced the city of Strasbourg this Thursday in a press release.
“Due to the refusals of the fairgrounds to the successive proposals from the City of Strasbourg, it will no longer be possible to host the Saint Jean Fair in its usual format from this year 2024. The City of Strasbourg therefore asks those interested to take into account take this change into account in the programming of their 2024 tour,” she warns.
The city explains that it has “engaged in dialogue” with the fairgrounds for “several years” on this subject. The Wacken district which hosted the fair until the 2023 edition having been transformed by the urban project “Archipel 2”, “it is no longer possible to use land there for the organization” of this funfair.

After examining the possibility of moving it to the Plaine des Bouchers-Meinau, it was then the Zénith-Hautepierre sports plain which was studied.
“This site was the only one meeting the criteria and the schedule for the 2024 and subsequent editions, pending the development of the Plaine des Bouchers-Meinau site,” writes the city which presented this site to the fairgrounds in July last.
But the latter spoke out against this proposal “almost unanimously”. A decision which prevents Strasbourg from hosting the Saint Jean Fair “in its usual format”, again according to the city.
She says she is “listening” to the fairgrounds to study the arrangements that could make it possible to maintain “festive activity” in the city and evokes a “necessarily reduced multi-site” format.
