Strasbourg fans have already expressed their discontent with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly. The American consortium took over the French part just four months ago.
The American has had mixed results with the Blues since purchasing the club. Chelsea had their worst season in recent memory during their first year in charge. Consequently, the 50-year-old businessman was criticized for the way in which he is trying to renew the club. His tactic is to sign young players who can develop.
In France, Todd Boehly has closed several deals over the summer that have not worked out well. Anger is rising among Strasbourg fans after Chelsea exploited their team as a “training centre”.
RC Strasbourg have been criticized for allegedly becoming little more than a “feeder” team to the American Premier League club.
Strasbourg supporters don’t like Boehly’s plans
Just three months after assuming the presidency, Todd Boehly earned the ridicule of his supporters in Strasbourg. A group of die-hard fans sent a letter to club president Marc Keller criticizing the team’s new owners.
In an open letter, the RCS Supporters Federation says: “Following the purchase of BlueCo, the 2023 summer transfer window is our first element of analysis and our first major concern.
“The exclusive hiring of very young players, not yet operational and potentially weakened by their overexposure, combined with the absence of arrivals of more mature players, exposes the club to a sporting risk from which the owners should have better protected us. The obligation on the part of BlueCo to buy only very young players does not make sense on a sporting level and fans do not identify with their team at this time.
“The fans who maintained that, since the purchase of Racing, we are only a training center and a secondary piece in a global business, have gained credit after this transfer window, which seems far from the announced ambition.”
A harsh attack on Chelsea’s management continues
French fans also criticize Chelsea’s expenses and management.
“Money without competition does not lead to anything good, and the example of Chelsea, our so-called ‘big brother’, who has spent a lot of money but has suffered a vertical fall in the English hierarchy, is an important reference point. : We do not want the incompetence that reigns at Chelsea in the RCSA. Neither directly nor indirectly.
“Beyond the Strasbourg case, we want to remind you that the ownership of several clubs is a danger for football. The pyramid system that this system is establishing little by little, and even more strongly than it already was, runs the risk of reducing the majority of clubs to a simple objective of developing young players and helping the few clubs in the top of the pyramid to generate profits for your business. “Clearly, it is a very worrying prospect.”
