“This project is the fruit of a joint reflection with my students and the Spanish sociologist and writer Alvaro Santana-Acuña, about his book Ascent to Glory », Explains Francy Ortegon-Saint-Auret, the Spanish teacher for the students of the BTS in international business, communication and accounting at the Institution Sainte-Clotilde. “His book explains how the novel A hundred years of loneliness by Gabriel García Márquez has been written. I wanted to introduce my students to Colombian Caribbean literature through various activities and to have an exchange in Spanish with an author who works on this subject. It was a very beautiful human and intellectual experience! », She specifies.
A tote bag and a poster
In addition to the discussions with Alvaro Santana-Acuña, the students took advantage of reading and writing workshops, created advertising objects (in particular a tote bag ), as well as a poster which is on display at the Gallimard bookstore worldwide, place Kléber in Strasbourg. “This project has given us a cultural openness and a different approach to Latin American literature. It was a very interesting educational experience! », Say Sedanur and Pierre.
“This allowed us to discover an author and a book that we did not know,” said Cristina for her part. “The virtual meeting with Alvaro Santana-Acuña helped us to better understand his point of view and to know why he had written this book”, writes Élise.
The author took part in two virtual exchanges with Strasbourg students. An experience that he too considers “very interesting, because the students were dynamic and curious about the universe of Gabriel García Márquez, the relationship between a writer and his audience, as well as the book market.
