Several writers, journalists and political organizations from Alsace have decided to publish a call for peace, Thursday October 26, 2023. In its press release, the collective calls in particular on the city of Strasbourg, “European capital of human rights”.
Since the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7 and the bombings that followed in the Gaza Strip, several voices have been raised around the world to demand a cease-fire. In Strasbourg, a collective made up of 34 citizens published an appeal for peace entitled “We want peace in the Middle East”.
“Citizens, community activists, trade unionists, writers, journalists, political organizations”, want to challenge the city of Strasbourg on its role as mediator in the peace process but also the French government and the European Union.
The collective wishes above all to face the humanitarian risk of this conflict and reduce the divide and the tensions that result from it.
The press release notably quotes UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who urged the international community “to come together around the protection of civilians and find a lasting solution to this endless cycle of death and destruction”, a few weeks ago before the attack on October 7.
