Strangers throw windows in a Vlaardingen press photographer

Last night, strangers threw stones through the windows of the home of press photographer Joey Bremer in Vlaardingen. One of the stones flew through the window of Bremer’s mother’s bedroom, who was just going to bed. She was not hit.

“My mother has nothing to do with this. For the same money she was touched”, Bremer responds Rijnmond.

The incident follows almost a week of threats from Feyenoord fans. They are angry with the photographer because he took photos during the arrest of a number of Feyenoord supporters in Vlaardingen last Sunday. The police then arrested thirteen people, who may have been out for a confrontation with Ajax supporters.

“They shouted that they would hit my ‘cancer skull’ and they were going to stab me. A number of those guys also followed me by car,” said Bremer. He said he had been threatened several times during the week and called in the police and PersVeilig. PersVeilig is an initiative of journalists’ union NVJ, the Dutch Association of Editors-in-Chief, the police and the judiciary to enable journalists to do their work safely.

Six stones

It is not clear whether Bremer’s house was additionally secured. He says six stones were thrown at his house. The press photographer has reported it to the police.

Police, justice and the municipality of Vlaardingen are jointly involved in this case. The parties do not want to say much about the events and the investigation.

Last week Journalists were also threatened in Doetinchem. There, a press photographer was jumped and beaten by a number of supporters of De Graafschap football club. Last month a photojournalist in Lunteren was pushed into the ditch with a shovel.
