Stranger Things: the authors deny having modified a scene from season 1

The writers of “Stranger Things” officially denied on Twitter the growing rumor that old episodes would be edited after they aired, in order to delete or alter certain scenes.

They could no longer remain silent. Faced with the growing rumor that old episodes of “Stranger Things” are subject to modification – with scenes re-edited or deleted – after the fact, the authors of the series have officially expressed themselves on Twitter in order to deny it. . “Public announcement: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And that will never happen”, can we read via their official account.

When a user asks them if this involves the scene of Jonathan spying on Nancy in season 1 – where the young man is photographing Nancy Wheeler without her knowing it as she is about to undress – the authors answer in the affirmative: “Yes”.

Rumor has it that this scene involving Jonathan and Nancy would have been cut so as not to show the young man continuing to spy on the young woman without her consent, thus avoiding giving her an image of a pervert. Except that this would never have been the case according to the authors.

The origin of evil

Why do some ‘Stranger Things’ fans come to question the integrity of the Duffer Brothers’ work? Ironically, it is the latter who are at the origin of this theory after their interview with the American site Variety in June.

Speaking about Will Buyers’ birthday, which had been set for March 22 but was completely ignored in Season 4, the show’s creators admitted to having completely forgotten about Will’s birthday, and hinted that they were going to edit a scene from Season 2, where Joyce gives Will’s birthday in order to correct this mistake.

“We are thinking of changing the date to May 22, because ‘May’ will fit with the movement of Winona’s lips (Ryder, who plays Will’s mother in the series, editor’s note). This will be us doing a George Lucas (a reference to the fact that the director is known to occasionally alter certain scenes of his films after the fact)”, they had declared. “We’ve done it before for other scenes without people realizing it,” they continued.

The confusion is all the greater as the series’ editor, Dean Zimmerman, recently claimed, still on the American site. Variety, that “updates” were being made on season 4 of “Stranger Things” after it aired.

What is the truth in all of this? It’s still hard to say. But given the statements of each other, it is impossible to blame the fans for cultivating doubt until the Duffer brothers are completely transparent about the possible changes made over time.
