Eddie Munson would be so proud: Metallica has indeed paid him a vibrant new tribute… on stage this time! It happened in Chicago during the Lollapalooza music festival. We tell you all about it.
The phenomenon Eddie Munson has obviously not finished talking about him! While Stranger Things returned to Netflix on May 27 with a brand new season 4, the series, as always, presented new faces to its viewers. Among them, one character in particular became a social media sensation upon his first appearance.
Joseph Quinn plays the funny and endearing eccentric leader of the high school Hellfire Club, Eddie Munson. Misunderstood by many, Eddie’s time at Hawkins was cut short by a heartbreaking moment of self-denial that was preceded by an epic performance by Master Of Puppets of Metallica, as he tried to lure a horde of Demobats away from his friends.
Since that special moment, Master Of Puppets rocketed up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and the UK Top 100 Singles Chart for the first time, peaking at numbers 35 and 26 respectively.
As soon as it aired, Metallica responded to their involvement in the season finale, calling it “an incredible honor” in an Instagram post alongside footage from the show. The group then re-enacted the scene on TikTok in sync with the series, wearing Hellfire Club t-shirts and dedicating their performance to the missing character: “Eddie… it’s for you,” it read. .
Stranger Things 4: Metallica reacts to Eddie’s awesome scene in the Netflix series
But now Metallica took that recognition one step further on Thursday night in Chicago, during a performance at the annual Lollapalooza music festival. Indeed, the members of the group paid yet another tribute to the adorable metalhead from Stranger Things while they ended their concert with their hit from 1986.
Shared on Instagram by a fan in the audience, the clip shows Metallica on stage while clips of Eddie’s performance can be seen on two giant screens, in between live close-ups of the band. When Eddie appears, the crowd roars and cheers.
Since airing, the Season 4 scene has stood out as one of the most iconic moments in the entire series. After using the Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush in another cult moment, many praised the Duffer Brothers for their musical choices.
But as for Master Of Puppetsa preparation for Joseph Quinn was necessary before filming as shown in a video shared by the writers revealing the actor practicing to play the song known to be difficult to interpret.
The final cut thus includes real footage of Quinn playing the guitar, intercut with professionally shot footage for the more complicated close-ups.
While many hope to see Eddie back in season 5 of the show, for now fans will have to take comfort in knowing that he pulled off “the most metal gig in the history of the world”.
Season 4 of Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix.
