Strange news from Sebastien Haller could spoil West Ham forward’s exciting search

West Ham United sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January and surprisingly decided not to sign a replacement for him.

The Hammers finished the window without adding a new forward, meaning he should be a priority for West Ham through the summer.

One name West Ham considered was Lassina Traore, and De Telegraaf reported that it was considered a move for the Ajax man.

Nothing happened in the end, and a strange situation surrounding Haller may have further undermined West Ham’s hopes of signing Traore.

A computer error, at least according to Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, means that Haller is not included in Ajax’s Europa League squad, in a twist that any Football Manager player knows doesn’t end well.

Haller will now not be playing any European action for the remainder of the season, which means that Traore is now online to appear regularly on Ten Hag.

The 20-year-old has stood out this season with eight goals and eight assists in just 16 first-team games, and now he seems poised for a key role when Haller can’t play.

If Traore continues in his excellent form, Ajax surely won’t want to let him go at the end of the season, or his price will at least go up.

That’s not really what West Ham would have wanted; if anything, they may have hoped that selling Haller to Ajax would eventually help their cause with Traore.

Instead, this strange twist in Amsterdam means that Traore will be huge from now until the summer, and it could end up out of the reach of West Ham.
