Strange Giant Star Found in the Center of the Milky Way

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia A giant star was found in the center of the Milky Way galaxy or is 25,000 light years from Earth. This star named VVV-WIT-08 strangely flickers until it disappears when observed.

This behavior is quite strange because there are stars that dim and then light up continuously. According to scientists, VVV-WIT-08 is a new type of star.

It is known that VVV-WIT-08 is hundreds of times larger than the Sun. The possibility of this star blinking, because there are other space objects such as stars or other planets, quoted by CNN, Thursday (17/6/2021).

University of Hertfordshire professor and one of the scientists, Philip Lucas, who observed it, said they didn’t know why the giant flashing star existed.

“Sometimes we find a star that doesn’t fit into an existing category, so we call it ‘what is this object’. We really don’t know how this giant flashing star came about,” he said.

Further research will later scientists will try to find similar twinkling stars. In addition, it will attempt to determine the object that makes VVV-WIT-08 blink.

University of Cambridge researcher Leigh Smith said the challenge was to determine the object. As well as how objects can affect stars.

“There’s definitely more to be found, but the challenge now is to determine what the object is and how it affects the star. Even if the orbit is far from the star,” said Leigh Smith.

The location where VVV-WIT-08 is located, the Milky Way Galaxy Center is a dense place. A number of large residents also live there.
