Stranded whale in London cannot be saved and receives an injection

The whale that stranded in the English River Thames last night will be injected tonight. The animal’s injuries are too serious to heal, rescue workers say.

The whale was trapped at a lock southwest of London last night. Rescue services knew the whale to liberate but a moment later the animal got stuck further down the river.

“The tide is now getting low and the whale is likely to dry up soon,” say rescue workers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue. “When that happens, vets will put the whale out of its misery and euthanize it.”

According to British media, it is likely to be a juvenile minke whale. The rescue operation of the three to four meter long animal drew large crowds along the banks of the Thames.
