Five years in the province

This year, the Civic Center for Peace in Santa Cruz meets five years of offering workshops to the population of Guanacaste. It was the second inaugurated in the country, in 2016, with an investment of $ 4.3 million from a loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Total, there is a CCP in each province: Garabito (Puntarenas), Santa Cruz (Guanacaste), (Cartago) Cartago, Guararí (Heredia), Aguas Zarcas (Alajuela), Desamparados (San José) and Pococí (Limón). All are administered by the Ministry of Justice and Peace.

The government intends to build eight more with another IDB loan of $ 100 million, approved last Tuesday, March 2, by the Legislative Assembly.

The Justice press department explained that one of them would be located in Liberia. The others in Pérez Zeledón (San José), Corredores (Puntarenas), Barranca (Puntarenas), Purral (San José), Barrio Santa Rita (Alajuela) and Pavas (San José, but still to be confirmed).

With the loan, you will also strengthen the virtual modality –called CCP Without Walls-, will invest in activities and training in human rights and in the implementation of computer systems in the CCPs.

These spaces are aimed at people outside the educational system or at risk of dropping out, with the aim of linking them to educational, work and development opportunities of their life project.

To this end, civic centers annually offer recreational, artistic, cultural, sports and technological workshops at the hands of institutions such as Sinem, ECA, the National Dance Workshop (TND), and the National Theater Workshop (TNT).
