Story. The close links between Savigny in the Rhône and the former priory of Noailly

On Saturday August 14, some members of the Noailly Histoire et Patrimoine association responded to the invitation of Savigny Patrimoine d’Hier et de Demain dans le Rhône and went in the footsteps of the abbey which governed the priory of Noailly du Xe in the XVIIIe century.

After a historical summary, the group strolled through the alleys of Savigny to discover the remains of the abbey, the houses of dignitaries, Renaissance-style facades before discovering a beautiful panorama at the top of the clock tower. .

To an air of medieval music, the visit continued with the lapidary museum: an exceptional collection of sculptures, capitals, friezes, saved from the plundering of the abbey thanks to the action of passionate volunteers.

An exchange in the other direction in the coming months

The afternoon was devoted to visiting the mine of Saint-Pierre-la-Palud, its reconstructed galleries and its very imposing mineralogy museum before visiting the village of Sain-Bel and its castle, residence of the abbots. from Savigny.

The Noaillerots in turn will welcome the Savignois to make them discover the remains of their history with the objective of working together around history and the men who brought the abbey of Savigny and its outbuildings to life.

From its meetings, a collective was already born which wrote a document with a historical and tourist vocation on the abbey, its outbuildings and the various priors. This collective should lead to exhibitions and conferences.
