Story of Pecel Traders Receiving Productive Banpres from Jokowi

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– Partini, a traveling pecel seller, has a principle that he always adheres to, even though his efforts are subject to trials in the midst of the Corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic. “Don’t ever give up and give up hope,” he said.

Partini, who sells pecel around the market in the Pasar Rebo area, East Jakarta, never thought that life would get worse due to the pandemic. When her husband, Triono, worked as sales medicine has experienced Termination of Employment (PHK) due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Partini’s burdens have increased because he is now the backbone of the family.

“Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, my husband experienced layoffs. But I did not give up, I was selling pecel around the alleyways. My husband and I kept trying, even though our income was much reduced compared to before the Coronavirus,” Partini said when contacted Sunday (23) / 8).

Before the pandemic, the income from selling pecel which this mother of one child sold was quite promising. By selling pecel food, he can earn Rp. 100 thousand per day. The income is able to increase the cost of daily needs. Partini was still able to set aside some of her income to save at the Simpedes Savings at BRI.

However, the situation immediately changed when the Corona pandemic attacked. The pecel trade business, which became his mainstay for reaping rupiah, was empty of buyers. “After Corona came, my income was only around Rp. 30 thousand-Rp. 40 thousand per day. Lonely buyers, many customers have chosen to cook for themselves since Covid-19,” said Partini.

To survive, she also helps her husband sell aci tofu online. The choice to trade online was made by Partini’s husband because of the problem that her husband’s leg aid was damaged.

“I can’t go around because my husband has polio on his feet, so if I walk there must be aids,” she said.

In the midst of difficult conditions and an increasing economic burden due to the pandemic, Partini received a glimmer of hope. He is one of the millions of recipients of Productive Banpres amounting to Rp. 2.4 million from President Joko Widodo.

“So far I have been saving at BRI. But I have never applied for a credit. Thank God, I got help. I was shocked and happy because my prayer was granted,” he said. Partini also admitted that he was lucky to meet the number one person in Indonesia, President Jokowi, at the launching of the productive presidential ban at the State Palace, Monday (24/8).

The aid funds, according to Partini, will be used as trading capital. “I used it for trading capital. I will play the funds again, such as shopping for flour, peanuts, cooking oil and pecel spices, buying chicken and others,” he said.

This woman from Karang Anyar, Solo admitted that she started selling pecel since 2008. After high school, Partini ventured to migrate to Jakarta in 2007. Due to the difficulty of getting a job, he tried his luck selling pecel around with a basket carried on his back. He took the example of a traveling pecel trader in his village in Central Java. Every day, Partini starts selling at 15.00 WIB and returns home at 19.00 WIB.

Choosing to sell his wares around the clock, according to Partini, is more efficient and effective, because it can directly approach consumers.

“Living in Jakarta is hard, if you don’t work hard you can’t live. Why don’t I rent a place, because if the rent is expensive, at that time I didn’t have the capital,” he said.

Now he hopes his business will grow with the help of the government. As in the future he can buy a cart so that it can load a lot of merchandise.

The government provided Productive Banpres of IDR 2.4 million as business capital for 9.1 million business actors micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). The assistance was distributed to the recipients through account transfers by a number of banks, one of which was BRI.

Previously, the President Director of BRI Bank Sunarso said that this assistance fund came from the Government and the Bank only as a distributor. In supporting the distribution of this Productive Banpres, BRI has prepared an accountable distribution system and socialization to recipients who meet the criteria. “BRI prepares a system and communicates it properly and correctly. Through distribution This productive presidential ban is expected to drive the economy, “said Sunarso.
