TRIBUNNEWS.COM – News anchor Yalda Ali recounted her hardships of being a female journalist under power Taliban from Afghanistan.
As host of TOLO TV’s “Good Morning”, Yalda Ali (25) is just one of several female journalists still working in the capital Afghanistan after Taliban seize power.
Those still working must now appear in public or on radio broadcasts to report the news, without provoking the anger of their militant rulers.
“I have to be very careful with every word, and also about the makeup I wear, how I dress and how I behave around men,” Yalda told NBC News in an interview Thursday (16/9/2021).
“We don’t know if we have free speech, so we have to be careful that the Taliban don’t run amok and we are harmed.”

Yalda has only served as TV news anchor for two weeks.
The previous anchorman has left Afghanistan when tens of thousands fled as American troops fled the country.
After two decades of working under laws that defend freedom of expression, journalists Afghanistan face an uncertain future under the new regime Taliban.
Several journalists fled, some were reportedly beaten for doing their job.
Work is even more dangerous for women, who have to be careful about what they can and cannot do under Taliban rule.
