Anyone who goes out for some fresh air in Baden-Württemberg on Sunday should be prepared for a storm. The German Weather Service (DWD) expects wind speeds of at least 80 kilometers per hour in lowlands across the country. In the mountains of the Swabian Alb or the Black Forest, severe squalls or hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 km/h could develop from an altitude of 1,000 meters.
On the highest German mountain outside the Alps, the Feldberg in the Black Forest, meteorologists expect hurricane gusts of around 120 kilometers per hour – even extreme hurricane gusts of up to 150 km/h are possible. The low is expected to peak around midday.
Trees could fall
Wherever there are a lot of trees – for example in parks, forests or cemeteries – caution is advised against falling branches or falling trees, as a spokesman for the DWD said. Many trees still have a lot of leaves and are therefore vulnerable to the wind. People should also be careful of falling roof tiles outside.
The strong wind is often accompanied by showers, and there can also be thunderstorms in the evening and afternoon. Temperatures between 7 and 11 degrees are expected on the Danube and up to 15 degrees in the north of the country.
The storm is expected to weaken on Monday night, but continue. There can still be severe squalls, especially on Feldberg. The new week gets off to a changeable start: According to the DWD, sunshine is expected on Monday morning, in the afternoon there could be thunderstorms and further squalls in the Black Forest. It should be 7 degrees on the Alb and up to 15 degrees on the Rhine.
