NEW YORK – As we get ready to celebrate Mom in style, the tri-state area could see a long bout of rain, coupled with some pretty nasty wind, with the worst of it coming on Saturday.
And it is that after enjoying the pleasant temperatures in the 70 degrees this Thursday, we could spend another week before without having these conditions.
A coastal storm is expected to bring cold, windy and soggy weather to all three states on Friday, likely making much of the day rainy, and Saturday doesn’t look much better; could actually be worse.
The rain stopped during the early part of rush hour Friday morning, but don’t expect it to stop for long.
The showers start in the afternoon and don’t really stop until Sunday morning, after about 48 hours of storm. Saturday would be the worst part with 20-30 mph winds. We could also count on 50 mph gusts.
Minor to moderate coastal flooding could occur.
To make matters worse, there’s a chance that some in the far north and west of the city will even see a few flakes of snow on Saturday night. While it won’t stick, and it’s not a guarantee that the flakes will hit the ground, it’s still unusual to have a chance of snow in May.
The showers may last after sunrise on Mother’s Day, but should die down by lunchtime. If you have plans to be with the family on Sunday, you should know that the winds stay with us all day.
However, things improve dramatically in the middle of next week.
After a few cooler days on Monday and Tuesday with temperatures in the 60s and partly sunny skies, we will expect plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures in the 70s for the rest of the week, getting even better for the weekend.
